Peter Sörensen founded a small craft business in Neumünster, Germany. With his entrepreneurial spirit and keen understanding of the market’s needs, he laid the foundation for a company destined to grow and adapt over the years.
The company made a bold move into producing precision moulded parts and manufacturing finished aluminium products, setting itself apart from others still focused on raw materials and semi-finished goods.
Now operating under the name ‘Sörensen & Köster’, the company had risen to prominence, recognized as one of the most successful in the industry. This pivotal year also saw VAW (Vereinigte Aluminiumwerke AG Berlin/Bonn) join as the main shareholder, bringing strength and stability to the company’s growth.
A new chapter began as the company became part of the Wernal Group, gaining access to new resources and expanding its reach within the industry.
As the business continued to evolve, it embraced a new identity, Nordalu Wernal, reflecting its commitment to high-quality aluminium manufacturing and precision engineering.
Nordalu became part of the esteemed Gutmann Group, entering a phase of enhanced expertise and growth, supported by the resources and experience of a well-established name in the industry.

Michail Theodorakopoulos is a seasoned executive with over 35 years of international experience in mining, metallurgy, and industrial manufacturing. As Managing Director and Shareholder of NordAlu GmbH, Michail leads the company’s strategic transformation, driving operational excellence, global expansion, and long-term profitability. His vision for NordAlu aligns precision aluminium manufacturing with sustainability, digital innovation, and customer-centricity.
Prior to joining NordAlu, Michail held senior leadership positions across Europe and Africa, including CEO roles at Hellas Gold SA and Nickel de l’Ouest Côte d’Ivoire (NOCI). At NOCI, he oversaw the development of one of the world’s largest nickel reserves, securing a 20-year exploitation permit and introducing environmentally advanced leaching processes. His ability to manage billion-euro budgets, lead complex metallurgical projects, and navigate challenging regulatory landscapes underscores his reputation as a transformative leader.
Michail holds an MSc in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and has been a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 1986. He is known for combining engineering expertise with a collaborative leadership style that empowers teams and builds resilient organizations.

Olaf Tjerkstra is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in sales, compliance, and internal auditing, currently serving as Chief Audit Executive at NordAlu GmbH. With over six years of leadership within the company—including a term as Managing Director—Olaf has played a central role in driving operational excellence, enhancing quality standards, and positioning NordAlu as a leader in customized aluminum solutions.
His deep commitment to sustainability and strategic business development is evident in the transformative initiatives he has led, which have resulted in a 20% improvement in operational efficiency and strengthened long-term client relationships. Olaf brings expertise in new business development, risk management, and key account acquisition, fostering a team culture rooted in trust and collaboration.
Prior to joining NordAlu, Olaf held multiple management roles at the BOAL Group in the Netherlands, where he led regional sales and customer service teams. Michael Hanau is a long-standing pillar of NordAlu GmbH, serving as Head of Human Resources & IT. With over two decades of experience at the company, Michael has been instrumental in building the internal infrastructure that supports NordAlu’s operational success and workplace culture.
Originally joining NordAlu in 2002 as Head of IT and Production Controlling, Michael steadily expanded his responsibilities, eventually taking over administrative services and later Human Resources. His dual expertise in technology and people management enables him to foster a digitally empowered, agile, and collaborative work environment.
Michael’s background spans roles in IT administration, software development, and accounting across various sectors including media, housing, and agriculture. This breadth of experience provides him with a well-rounded perspective on organizational dynamics and operational efficiency.
As the leader of NordAlu’s IT and HR departments, Michael focuses on modernizing systems, optimizing internal processes, and cultivating a workplace culture grounded in trust, development, and performance. His leadership ensures that the people and platforms behind NordAlu’s precision manufacturing continue to grow in step with the company’s ambitious goals.
Jens Burczak serves as Head of Sales at NordAlu GmbH, bringing extensive expertise in aluminium profile sales, market strategy, and customer relationship management. Since 2017, Jens has played a key role in strengthening NordAlu’s commercial operations, leading the sales team with a sharp focus on customer satisfaction, tailored project planning, and long-term business development.
His responsibilities span strategic market development, pricing and contract negotiations, budgeting, and overseeing major client accounts. Known for his proactive approach, Jens also drives new business acquisition and organizes key customer events to enhance engagement and loyalty. His leadership style is rooted in transparency, teamwork, and a keen eye on market trends.
Prior to NordAlu, Jens worked as a Relationship Manager in Frankfurt am Main, specializing in exchange-traded financial products. There, he provided high-value clients with personalized service, trade execution support, and in-depth chart analysis. Earlier in his career, he was involved in organizational and process optimization at the University of Siegen, leveraging tools like ARIS to streamline internal operations.
Jens holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Administration and is a Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) Level II, combining commercial acumen with strong analytical capabilities to navigate both industrial and financial markets with precision.
